Koons designs BMWs 17th Art Car

I have always loved BMW Art Cars. I consider cars to be pieces of art anyway, and BMW really gets it. My favorite Art Cars have started life as dedicated race vehicles. Everything about these cars are art. The motor and the body done by BMW but the skin finished by some of the worlds most respected artists such as Calder, Stella, Lichtenstein and Warhol.

This year BMW has selected Jeff Koons to put his final touches and a 2011 BMW M3 GT2 that is going to race at Le Mans.

Here is Koons' M3 GT2 Art Car:

Here is Koons with his creation.

Artist Jeff Koons has been collaborating with BMW since 2003. His Art Car has a blend of bright and vibrant colors. I am so excited about Koons version, My favorite Art Car of all time is Alexander Calder's 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL. Calder's 3.0 is also a beautiful mix of bright and vibrant colors, and it also debuted at Le Mans!

This is Calder's finished product on the track at Le Mans.

In the spirit of Calder, Stella, Lichtenstein and Warhol, BMW announced this year that the 17th Art Car created by Jeff Koons will race where the first rolling pieces of art by legendary artists raced – at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France on June 12-13, 2010. Koons' canvas the BMW M3 GT2, which was homologated to compete at this year's running of the world's most famous endurance race.
